Calligraphy leaning to lettering
I stumbled across these letters on the tumblr blog of Giuseppe Salerno, Calligraphy in Berlin.
Giuseppe is an Italian, currently living on Berlin and was one half of the Lettering vs.Calligraphy exhibition last year, with letterer Martina Flor.
Most of the letters on his blog are written, many with brushes and guache, but I also really like some of his drawn work. Well worth a look.

Let’s Dance
Young, talented and wild, that’s the work of Robert Hellmundt, visual designer and typographer from germany. On his site creeze you can follow all his news and doings like a diary. While printing shirts and making HipHop he is designing inspirations mostly for cool projects such as the fruit campaign, dead disco and for shirts. We love his work and the playful exposure with type. So if you know other young artists feel free to send them to us.

Always Hand-Made
This could be the main statement of american designer and lettering master Cory Say from Garland, Texas. The main ingredient of his work and also the base of all is a good concept. Without there is no good future for an artwork. So he is an artist who loves all facets of design and a good concept added to this makes him unique and standing out.But next to the concept, we don’t have to forget what his main motivation is as he says:
"However, I would marry lettering and illustration if I could. "

Pyrography
Pyrography or Pyrogravur is a special artform of decorating wood with  other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a poker. It is also known as pokerwork or wood burning. It is similar to Tattoos, you can create shades and tones while rasing the pressure on the wood as on the skin. The harder the pressure is the better is the contrast and the more black you give it. Mostly this is made with an iron, but we have seen artworks that are made with a hot calligraphy feather. The process of wood burning and decorating is very old and goes back to the first human in Africa and Egypt. While we got some nice inspiration from lucybuddresearch a fan of us, we had to look for more. This is the small collection of the best pieces that we found. Enjoy it!

3D Paper
These delicate letters seem so fragile. Like me, you might be fooled into thinking they have been quilled, but they are from a personal personal 3D project of Dan Hoopert. They’ve been beautifully constructed with all the swirls and loops.
You might remember Dan’s popular architectural, wireframe letters from a while ago, also made with Cinema 4D.

Body Scripture
is an artwork made by Ronit Bigal from Tel Aviv, Israel. Photography, Calligraphy and floral ornamentation were the elements comprising this exhibition. Digital photography topped with drawings in black Indian ink produces an effect of bas-relief on the body which is completely exposed. The camera explores the body, capturing different parts, discovering a world of hidden landscapes, textures, and unspoken eroticism. For the artist this was a journey of unforeseen surprise. Therefore she wraps parts of her photos with floral ornamentation and others with cited calligraphy taken from Biblical texts. They are almost abstract and enigmatic, arousing the viewer’s curiosity to discover what are the photographed objects. This project is a fantastic way of typography descibing the body. From far away the small words seem to be a textile. The communication of the naked body combined with typography says more than thousand words.

I wonder what it’s like to be dyslexic
Last week we got this amazing book from Sam Barclay from Southsea, UK. He wrote a book about dyslexia, designed with typography to explain how people with developmental reading disorder read and think.
About the book
People all over the world struggle with reading for a variety of reasons, including dyslexia, lack of education and an unfamiliar language to name a few. People with reading difficulty are often capable of thinking in ways that others aren’t and as a result are capable of true greatness, yet these people are often misunderstood and treated unfairly as a result.
While thumbing through the book, you get more and more interesting and inspiring tips how our reading habits function. You dive into the experience of the struggle of reading and recognizing words and paragraphs. Based on an an extract of a book called “The small pleasures of life”, Sam describes capitalisation, truspel, typoglycemia, homophobes, word shapes, colour thinking and more.
We love the idea, showing people what it’s like to read with a strong concentration on the text and the great effort for all sences. Please help to support this book and share the post or buy it on Sams Site. You won’t get it elsewhere because it is just funded on kickstarter because of it’s incredible message and awesome design. Thanks to Sam for the book!
